Quinton Kuhn began playing the fiddle at the age of seven, studying under multiple Grand National Fiddle Champion, Katrina Nicolayeff. While still in elementary school, he joined his middle school orchestra, which sparked a new interest in classical violin.
As his passion for classical music grew, Quinton shifted his focus from fiddle to classical violin. He began studying with Marilyn Short, a respected teacher with over 40 years of experience in classical violin instruction. During his junior and senior years of high school, he studied under Geoffrey Hill, principal second violinist of the Boise Philharmonic.
Currently, Quinton studies with Michael Lim, concertmaster of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra.
Throughout high school, Quinton held leadership roles in several ensembles. He served as concertmaster for the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Canyon County Symphony, his high school orchestra, and Phoenix Strings. He was also the lead violinist in ELRO, a prestigious electric rock orchestra, and performed at Carnegie Hall. He participated in multiple festivals, including Idaho All-State.
Now attending Cornish College of the Arts, Quinton is the college’s principal violinist and regularly collaborates with other musicians across departments. He has performed in numerous pit orchestras for productions such as Chess, Amélie, Fun Home, and more.
Outside of school, Quinton busks throughout Seattle, WA, and is currently forming both a string quartet and a piano trio to perform and gig in the area.
